Pro Resources is currently seeking an experienced Mill Setup Machinist for a temp-to-hire opportunity with a reputable precision manufacturing company in Columbia City, IN. This position requires an intermediate to advanced machinist who can independently complete setups and troubleshoot CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers.
Schedule:
1st Shift: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday–Friday
Straight 8-hour paid shift with a 30-minute lunch
Overtime is currently limited, typically five hours or less per week
Overtime may involve working 9-hour days once fully trained
Training generally takes approximately 30–60 days
Job Responsibilities:
Independently set up CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers
Complete setups from raw stock through first-part approval
Select and mount tooling, fixtures, and workholding equipment
Load, verify, and edit CNC programs
Program offsets and make adjustments to maintain tight tolerances
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T callouts
Perform and document first-article and in-process inspections
Identify tooling wear and make proactive corrections
Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, and surface-finish issues
Maintain setup sheets, job travelers, and work instructions
Coordinate job transitions to minimize changeover time
Work with CAD/CAM programmers on new or complex job launches
Support and mentor less-experienced machinists
Assist with improvements involving setup time, scrap, and process efficiency
Follow all quality and production documentation requirements
Qualifications:
At least two years of CNC setup experience on mills and/or lathes
Ability to independently complete setups and achieve first-part approval
Experience with 3-axis or multi-axis CNC equipment
Strong engineering print-reading and GD&T skills
Working knowledge of G-code programming and editing
Experience selecting and applying cutting tools
Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
High school diploma or GED preferred
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Additional experience that may qualify candidates for the higher end of the pay range includes:
Four or more years of complex CNC setup experience
Multi-axis machining experience
Advanced G-code programming and editing skills
Fixturing and workholding design experience
CAM software experience with Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar programs
Medical device, aerospace, or other tight-tolerance manufacturing experience
Previous training, mentoring, or process-improvement experience
