PGS Worldwide is seeking a CNC Machinist in Palmdale, CA for a contract role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The CNC Machinist will support tooling operations by setting up and operating milling machines to perform precision machining work. This role requires blueprint reading, multi-axis milling experience, CNC programming, and the ability to complete machining operations to exacting tolerances.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Blueprint reading experience.
- 3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis milling experience.
- CNC programming experience, including MCAM.
- Measurement and inspection experience.
- Ability to set up and operate horizontal, vertical, plain, or universal milling machines.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, models, and engineering specifications.
- Ability to select tooling, plan machining sequences, and determine speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
- Ability to use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to perform standard shop computations.
- Ability to monitor and verify quality during machining operations.
- Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Preferred Skills
- 10+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Experience operating CNC mills, 5-axis machines, and lathes with live tooling.
- Experience developing CNC programs from drawings, models, and material requirements.
- Ability to set up and run complete machining operations independently.
- Experience with true 5-axis gantry machines, including SNK.
- Wire EDM experience.
- Experience performing in-process and pre-inspection quality checks before CMM inspection.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and operate milling machines for precision tooling work.
- Perform machining operations such as compound angles, contours, angular holes, helical milling, spiral milling, serrating, gear cutting, spline cutting, and keyway cutting.
- Select, mount, and align machine attachments and tooling.
- Plan machining sequences and setup methods.
- Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Use precision measuring tools to inspect work and maintain quality.
- Measure, mark, and scribe stock for machining.
- Support quality control requirements and maintain accurate machining standards.
Work Schedule / Shift
- Full-time onsite role.
- 4x10 schedule, Monday–Thursday.
- 40 hours per week.
