Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mixologist leads Charcuteria's Wine & Bar Station, guiding guests through our natural wine program, spritz program (a mix of batched and made-to-order builds), and beer selections while upholding DC ABRA compliance. This is a high-volume role, especially during peak hours (5 PM–close), requiring someone who stays organized under pressure, reads tickets quickly, and can pour with speed and accuracy while still delivering warm, knowledgeable guest interactions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Set up and break down the Wine & Bar Station per opening/closing checklists, including the beverage display cases (beer/soft drinks and natural wine, both QR self-order)

•  Pour and serve wine and beer to standard, and build spritzes to spec — some pre-batched, others made to order — following the spritz guide and pour specifications

•  Work efficiently and accurately during high-volume peak periods (5 PM–close), reading tickets, prioritizing orders, and keeping the bar organized under pressure

•  Learn and retain cocktail, spritz, and pour recipes quickly, and execute them consistently once trained

•  Check ID and monitor guest alcohol consumption in compliance with DC ABRA regulations and responsible service standards

•  Confidently answer guest questions about the wine, beer, and spritz program while still managing ticket flow — balancing hospitality with speed

•  Educate guests on natural wine selections, varietals, and pairing suggestions with charcuterie boards and seasonal offerings

•  Maintain accurate Toast POS entries for bar tabs, retail wine sales, and modifiers

•  Support evening service flow alongside the Charcuterie Counter and Retail Floor stations

•  Restock and rotate wine, beer, and spritz ingredients using FIFO principles

•  Participate in the evening scrum (4:30–4:45 PM) and opening brief to align on service priorities

•  Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the bar station, glassware, and display cases throughout service

QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS

•  21 years of age or older (required for alcohol service)

•  Valid DC alcohol service certification (ABC/responsible service training) — or ability to obtain within first 30 days

•  Solid working knowledge of wine (varietals, regions, natural wine basics) — we're looking for candidates who already know wine fairly well, not just cocktail/bar-only experience

•  Prior bartending or wine service experience preferred, ideally in a high-volume setting

•  Highly organized, calm under pressure, and able to learn new recipes and procedures quickly

•  Comfortable with POS systems (Toast experience a plus)

•  Strong communication and guest education skills, with the ability to multitask between service speed and guest questions

CROSS-TRAINING & FLEXIBILITY

•  Comfortable stepping in on the Charcuterie Counter or Retail Floor during slower periods or when needed for coverage

•  All positions at Charcuteria are cross-trained across departments (Charcuterie Counter, Wine & Bar, Coffee Bar, Retail Floor/Market, and BOH) — team members should expect to rotate and support other stations as business needs require

•  Flexibility to support catering and events work streams (prep, packing, delivery, or on-site service) as scheduling requires

•  We're glad to train the specifics of our program, but we're especially looking for people who already have a genuine interest in food, wine, coffee, and hospitality

•  Willingness to grow into and contribute other skills beyond the core role (e.g. digital marketing/social content, light handy work/facilities support, events help) as opportunities arise

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•  Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs (kegs, cases, wine boxes)

•  Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-touch guest environment

•  Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required

GROWTH PATH

Mixologists with strong wine knowledge and guest education skills may progress toward a Beverage Lead or Sommelier-track role as the wine program expands.
