Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure, high-quality language access in 80+ spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Mixtec Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Mixtec, a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in Oaxaca, Puebla, and Guerrero, Mexico, is a rare but high-demand language often required in asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Mixtec English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and legal contexts.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics standards.
Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Mixtec (any regional variety) and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, community, asylum, or NGO/government strongly preferred).
Cultural knowledge of indigenous Mexican communities.
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
