Job Summary Basic Function: Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Lab Teaching Assistants help in maintaining the labs used for student training in the department. They also assist in training students in the courses they have already finished. They may assist with the preparation of media and reagents in the labs, help with the maintenance of lab equipment, and assist the instructor in training students by reviewing course information and teaching lab skills to students.

This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire, and applicants will be notified.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be current MLS students who have been accepted to the MLS program.
  • Students usually work 5-20 hours per week and cannot exceed 20 hours.
  • 1 to 2 semesters of MLS Laboratory sections completed.
  • Experience working with various types of lab equipment and analyzers.

This position is 50/50 eligible; students must be enrolled full-time and have at least a 2.0 GPA in order to qualify. This is a pooled position. Physical Requirements of this position

  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual Acuity Requirements, including color, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing using a computer terminal, extensive reading.
  • The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position. The worker is subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
