Mobile Service Technician

Job Summary
Sanco Thermo King is looking for a motivated and experienced Mobile Service Technician to join our Des Moines team.
This position provides an opportunity to work directly with customers in the field performing diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and service on transport refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, has strong troubleshooting skills, provides excellent customer service, and can work independently while being part of a team.

Essential Functions

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair transport refrigeration units and auxiliary power units.
• Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration components.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment testing.
• Diagnose equipment faults using physical inspections, diagnostic tools, and electronic downloads when applicable.
• Respond promptly to customer service requests and emergency service calls.
• Positively interface with customers, Service Advisors, leadership, parts personnel, vendors, drivers, and other technicians.
• Communicate effectively with customers regarding equipment condition, repairs, and recommended service.
• Complete repair orders and electronic work orders accurately and at the time of repair.
• Identify additional repair needs and communicate findings to the appropriate customer or Sanco team member.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service truck.
• Meet and maintain labor efficiency and quality standards.
• Maintain required certifications and participate in company and manufacturer training.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures and use required PPE.

Knowledge, Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience with transport refrigeration, diesel, automotive, or related mechanical systems preferred.
• Thermo King or Carrier experience is a plus.
• Refrigeration experience is a plus.
• Diesel engine experience is a plus.
• Technical degree, certification, or manufacturer training is a plus.
• Previous field-service experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.

• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

• Basic computer and data-entry skills.
• Ability to use diagnostic computers and electronic work order systems.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals and service information.

• Work independently in a mobile field-service environment.
• Diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate repairs.
• Use diagnostic equipment, electronic downloads, and computer-based service tools.
• Coordinate tools, parts, equipment, and resources to complete service work efficiently.
• Maintain a professional and confident relationship with customers.
• Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Pass a DOT-approved physical, if required.
• Work flexible hours and respond to emergency service needs when required.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
• Frequently work from ladders, elevated surfaces, and in awkward positions.
• Work in confined spaces and around moving mechanical components.
• Exposure to chemicals, refrigerants, fumes, and moderate noise levels.
• Ability to stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb stairs or ladders.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work with hand tools and diagnostic equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
