Location: Houghton, Michigan (Fully Remote) Industry: Department of Defense Pay Rate: $50 $65 per hour Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Overview: The Systems Engineer will develop system models and technical documentation using a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach. This position works directly with clients, engineering teams, and project management to define requirements, evaluate system architectures, and deliver reliable solutions supporting complex Department of Defense programs.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Execute projects using MBSE methodologies, SysML software, and legacy systems engineering tools as needed.
Develop use cases, system requirements, activity diagrams, and logical and physical architectures.
Evaluate and optimize system alternatives while maintaining requirements traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
Develop designs in accordance with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles, enabling modularity across system interfaces and programs.
Evaluate system designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
Provide input to Project Managers in developing project plans, schedules, and labor budgets.
Collaborate with clients and cross-functional engineering teams to understand technical and operational requirements.
Solve complex engineering problems involving multiple variables in environments where limited standardization exists.
Create and maintain clear, accurate system models and supporting technical documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Three or more years of relevant systems engineering experience.
Model-Based Systems Engineering experience required.
Experience using Cameo required.
Experience with SysML preferred.
Assembly management or top-down design experience preferred.
Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning processes and tools, including DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM, or DFA, preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to technical excellence, collaboration, and high-quality execution.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
