Purpose:
The Mohs Histotechnician will be responsible for supporting Mohs micrographic surgery procedures by providing high-quality histological services within a dynamic clinical environment. This role requires attention to detail, precision, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and cut frozen sections of tissue specimens utilizing Mohs surgical techniques.
Process and embed tissue samples accurately and efficiently for histopathological examination.
Perform staining techniques for slide preparation and ensure quality control measures are met.
Document all steps and processes associated with specimen processing and maintain accurate records.
Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety and regulatory standards as outlined by CLIA.
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to support uninterrupted workflow.
Collaborate with the surgical and clinical teams to ensure a seamless operation during Mohs procedures.
Provide guidance and support to other laboratory staff as necessary.
Engage in continuous education and training to improve histotechnical skills and knowledge.
Other related duties as assigned by the laboratory supervisor or team lead.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or a related field.
Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) is preferred.
Prior experience within a histology or Mohs laboratory is strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with team members and patients.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
