Summary:

The Scientist, Manufacturing Sciences will lead projects focused on the development and improvement of DNA-based diagnostic reagents with minimal supervision. The role manages multiple projects, supports day-to-day laboratory operations, improves manufacturing processes, performs experimental work and data analysis, trains team members, monitors equipment and processes, maintains SOPs and quality records, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires hands-on molecular biology and recombinant DNA experience, project leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects and products across functional groups while meeting target deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Drive day-to-day laboratory operations and maintain workflow.
  • Improve processes and procedures and develop and implement solutions to moderately complex problems.
  • Design, create, and/or perform experimental tasks and complete data analysis using uType, SureTyper, Fusion, or equivalent software.
  • Perform Scientist I responsibilities as required.
  • Train and provide guidance to current and new Scientist I/II team members on laboratory functions, procedures, analysis, projects, and product builds.
  • Operate and train Scientists on SAP, UV spectrophotometers, thermal cyclers, agarose gel electrophoresis, UV image analyzers, genetic analyzers, qPCR instruments, Luminex instruments, high-speed centrifuges, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor equipment, machines, tools, and manufacturing process performance.
  • Update and maintain SOPs and quality records related to equipment maintenance, testing, analysis, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports for Scientist III/Management.
  • Provide team backup support during supervisor absence when necessary.
  • Apply PPI Business System/LEAN concepts and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply scientific/technical knowledge and principles related to HLA and relevant software.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory and industry considerations, compliance requirements, and scientific discovery.
  • Exercise independent judgment in decision-making and execution of duties.
  • Collect, organize, and appropriately document experimental data in laboratory notebooks or other required documentation.
  • Use PCs and MS Office for data entry and analysis.
  • Plan and organize work schedules and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and cross-functional departments.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, R&D, Operations, Regulatory/Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management.
  • Escalate high-impact business situations promptly and provide solutions in consultation with the Supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive laboratory and business information.
  • Follow safe laboratory procedures and protocols, including universal precautions when handling blood and blood products.
  • Ensure processes and teams adhere to cGMP and GDP requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate, site, and regulatory policies, practices, and guidelines.
  • Work at laboratory benches, low-temperature freezers, and PC workstations as required.
  • Occasionally handle blood samples and blood byproducts.
  • Perform some lifting of objects, including laboratory instrumentation weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience, professional experience rather than academic/schooling experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques including NGS (Next Generation Sequencing).
  • Laboratory training and hands-on laboratory experience is required
  • Some project leadership experience with the ability to lead projects.
  • Data analysis skills and experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and industry considerations, compliance requirements, and scientific discovery.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and implement written laboratory procedures.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and appropriately document experimental data.
  • Proficiency using PCs and MS Office for data entry and analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build productive cross-functional relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive laboratory and business data.
