High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Perform molecular diagnostic laboratory testing according to laboratory standard operating procedures (SOP's). Testing materials include animal specimens that may contain a variety of infectious diseases.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge and skills of molecular biology, including: nucleic acid extraction; PCR; real-time PCR; digital PCR; gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing analysis. The ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel is important.

Physical Demands

Extended periods of sitting conducting bench work and some light lifting.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR reactions and post PCR analysis,. The testing process also includes data interpretation and reporting of test results.

Percentage of time 65 Duties/Responsibilities

Assist in maintenance of lab space, lab equipment, supplies and inventory. Maintain necessary records and laboratory reports and other related duties assigned by the Faculty Section Head and Laboratory Supervisor.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities

Assist research projects including planning & conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results. Participate in required proficiency tests.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Train and coach new employees and visiting students/scholars
