Job Summary

The Molecular Diagnostics Technologist II is a knowledgeable and experienced laboratory professional responsible for performing high-complexity testing in accordance with CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489. This role requires a minimum of three years of experience as a certified Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), Specialist in Molecular Technology (MB), or equivalent training and experience.

This individual is responsible for daily specimen processing, analysis, and accurate reporting of results. The technologist is expected to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and adherence to regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Receive and process specimens according to established department protocols
  • Perform testing, analyze data, and produce accurate and precise results
  • Interpret and report patient test results in a timely manner
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues affecting test performance or result accuracy
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and method troubleshooting
  • Validate new methods and procedures
  • Participate in CAP proficiency testing surveys
  • Assist in maintaining quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) programs
  • Monitor workflow and meet productivity expectations per departmental guidelines
  • Maintain proper documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and standard operating protocols
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including protection of patient health information (PHI)
  • Adhere to corporate compliance, privacy, and security policies
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, and team members regarding lab operations and issues
  • Address client concerns professionally and efficiently
  • Assist with administrative duties such as ordering supplies and managing inventory

Non-Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with other departments and teams as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Molecular Technology, or a related clinical, chemical, physical, or biological science
  • ASCP certification (MT, CLS, or MB) preferred
  • State laboratory license (if applicable) preferred
  • Ongoing continuing education required to maintain certification/licensure

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred
  • Experience with high-complexity molecular testing strongly preferred
