Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager or the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocation Nurse, the Monitor Technician provides continual telemetry monitoring, as well as a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring admission to the Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing high-quality patient care activities as delegated by and under the supervision of the registered professional nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Monitor Technician will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Monitor Technician must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Monitor Technician will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in-services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.

  • Monitor, interpret and report data from telemetry monitor systems  
  • Recognize rhythms with the potential to alter the patient’s physiology and report to licensed staff immediately 
  • Document rhythm status per routine, for all changes and upon request during emergent patient interventions 
  • Report changes inrhythm/rate to appropriate licensed personnel 
  • Follow procedure for application to patient and troubleshooting monitoring equipment 
  • Perform clerical, technical and communication functions as directed by the licensed staff 
  • Maintain stock supplies for monitoring area 
  • Maintain a safe work environment 
  • Initiate Basic Life Support when necessary

What qualifications you will need:
  • BLS for Health Care Providers 
  • Certified as telemetry technician by recognized program or the organization identified equivalent 
  • Competency assessment of rhythm interpretation skills required prior to monitoring patients without supervision of licensed staff
