Summary of Job Duties:

The Monitor Tech/Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician provides direct patient care to assigned patients and works as a team member of the Respiratory Care Department (Heart Station). The Monitor Tech/EKG Technician performs EKG's throughout the hospital and outpatient clinics.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma/GED, PLUS Six (6) months direct patient care related experience. PCT certified within three (3) months of hire (training provided). Must pass the dysrhythmia course and maintain competency as a telemetry technician.
• Become CPR certified within the first 90 days of hire (training provided)
• Basic computer skills
• Excellent communication skills, strong work ethics and accountability

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.

• Current BLS.

• Certification in EKG or Dysrhythmia course.

• Microsoft Office experience.

• EPIC EMR.

• Kronos.

• Current certification or competency of EKG acquisition

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

• Must complete the dysrhythmia course within 90 day evaluation period and maintain competency as a telemetry technician.
• Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Job Requirements:

• Continuously monitor cardiac telemetry and ECG rhythms for assigned patients.
• Recognize and accurately interpret common cardiac rhythms and rhythm changes.
• Identify and promptly report abnormal or life-threatening rhythms to nursing staff.
• Maintain constant observation of telemetry monitors and respond appropriately to alarms.
• Document rhythm changes, alarms, and pertinent patient information according to hospital procedures.
• Perform rhythm strips and provide them to nursing staff for review when required.
• Verify proper telemetry equipment placement and troubleshoot basic monitoring issues.
• Notify nursing staff of disconnected leads, poor signal quality, or equipment malfunctions.
• Maintain accurate patient assignments and ensure monitoring coverage at all times.
• Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Follow hospital policies related to telemetry monitoring, patient privacy, and safety.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe monitoring environment.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and remain alert during continuous monitoring.
• Participate in patient-safety initiatives and other departmental activities as assigned.
