Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) and Digital Health (DH) Intern

The Role

If so, you may be the perfect fit for our Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) and Digital Health Team as a MERL Intern. The MERL & Digital intern will support M&E data collection, analysis, and reporting while also contributing to the configuration, deployment, and support of digital health tools and devices used in programme implementation.

The role is ideal for candidates with an interest in both data-driven decision-making and practical information technology in a health and development context.

This role is based in Liberia and open to national and international candidates located in Liberia.

What you’ll do:

 Monitoring, Evaluation & Research

• Data Collection & Management: Assist in developing, testing, and refining data collection tools including surveys and interview guides.
• Collect, clean, and enter project data into the M&E database and information systems.
• Research & Analysis: Support literature reviews and evidence synthesis for programme design and reporting.
• Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify trends, gaps, and lessons learned.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Assist in tracking performance against indicator targets in the logical framework (logframe).
• Contribute to the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports.
• Field Support: Assist in field-level monitoring including on-site data verification and data quality audits.
• Data Analysis: Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis using tools such as SPSS, Excel, STATA, or DHIS2.
• General Support: Provide support with documentation, organizing meetings and workshops, and taking meeting minutes.

  Digital Health & Device Management

• Device Configuration: Assist in the configuration and setup of Android and iOS mobile devices for field data collection, including factory resets, account setup, and Google/MDM enrollment.
• Software Installation & App Management: Install, update, and troubleshoot applications on mobile devices, including KoboToolbox, ODK Collect, DHIS2 Capture, and other health data collection tools.
• Mobile Device Management (MDM): Support mobile device management (MDM) activities, including device enrollment, profile configuration, remote wipe, and asset tracking.
• IT Support: Provide first-line IT support to field staff, including password resets, connectivity troubleshooting, and device repairs or replacements.
• Data Collection Platform Support: Assist in setting up and testing digital data collection forms and surveys on mobile platforms prior to field deployment.
• Device Inventory & Asset Tracking: Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all digital devices, accessories, and software licenses.
• Data Sync & Quality Checks: Support the upload, sync, and quality review of data collected via mobile platforms to central databases.
• User Training & Support: Train field staff and enumerators on the basic use of devices, applications, and data collection protocols.
• Documentation: Document all device configurations, issues, and resolutions in the IT support log.

• Understand the operational and administrative procedures of an international development organization.

What you'll bring:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Health Informatics, Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proactive, well-organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

You’ll impress us if you have:

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel, is required.
• Familiarity with data analysis software such as SPSS or STATA is an advantage.
• Experience with mobile data collection tools such as KoboToolbox or ODK is a plus.
• Knowledge of DHIS2 or similar health information systems is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of Android device configuration, including factory reset, Google account setup, and app installation.
• Familiarity with mobile device management (MDM) tools such as Google Workspace, Intune, or similar platforms.
• Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot common software applications on Windows and Android.
• Understanding of mobile network connectivity, Wi-Fi setup, and SIM card management.
• Basic IT troubleshooting skills include resolving hardware and software issues.
