Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Substitute building custodians are to perform custodial and light maintenance services that keep school facilities clean and orderly. Substitute custodians ensure that required cleaning is completed daily to ensure that facilities are safe, secure, clean, and orderly for students, faculty, and the community. Substitute custodians help in preparation/setup for all evening activities and events if applicable based on the assigned duty schedule.
Responsibilities:
Follows an assigned schedule which may include the following: cleans/maintains school facility, classrooms, office areas, multipurpose rooms/cafeterias, storage areas, exterior walkways, walk-off mats as applicable, and as directed by building administrator to include: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, polishing, and sanitizing all designated areas
Empty trash daily, spot clean carpets, shampoo carpets when needed and repair snags as needed
Cleans and sanitizes sinks, drinking fountains, toilets and restrooms daily
Performs minor maintenance and repairs of the facility as needed or when called upon by building administrator, such as cleaning, repairing, and painting walls or surfaces for minor damage, and changing light bulbs as needed
Reports major repair needs and safety problems to building administrator immediately
Make sure the entire facility is properly secured each night before leaving
Keeps the custodial closet in a clean and orderly manner
Keeps supplies in stock and keeps dust mops clean and treated
Sets up multi-purpose room/gym or assigned area daily based on building assignment for regular school activities and after-school activities, which may include setting up furniture and equipment
May be required to be on the school premises when extra-curricular events/after-school activities are in progress in order to perform needed setup preparations
Participates in thorough cleaning of school facilities during vacation periods
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the building administrator
Completes required annual safety training and other necessary related training
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school education or equivalent and six months of related work experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of safety regulations and safe work practices
Knowledge and experience using commercial cleaning equipment, including wet/dry vacuum, buffer, and pressure washer
Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, hazardous chemical warning labels, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports
Knowledge of approved methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, electronic, or diagram form
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to use technology to communicate via email or willingness to learn
Physical ability to do manual work associated with custodial duties, to include: climbing, lifting and carrying, frequently ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and ramps. Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate hand and power-driven tools and equipment used in custodial work. Frequently involves walking or standing for extended periods, frequent stopping, bending, and occasional sitting and crawling
Physical ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Demonstrated ability to interact positively in interpersonal relationships in job situations beyond receiving work instructions, interacting with faculty, students, and the public
Ability to organize oneself and be attentive to details
Ability to maintain total confidentiality in all work assignments
Ability to perform essential job functions and scheduled assigned tasks
Must comply with District board policies and procedures
