Mortgage Controller opportunity with a growing national lender. This is a hands-on role, overseeing the company's accounting and financial operations. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with direct mortgage industry experience.
The
Controller is
responsible for the specific duties listed below.
Your specific duties will include:- Manage the day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, cash management, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
- Maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Apply accounting knowledge specifically to mortgage banking operations, including mortgage loan production and secondary market activity.
- Account for mortgage loans held for sale, loan sales, warehouse lines, loan commitments, and related mortgage assets and liabilities.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, banking partners, and other outside advisors.
- Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Automate and streamline manual accounting processes where appropriate.
Required qualifications for the position include:- 5+ years of accounting experience within a mortgage company.
- 2+ years as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.
- Strong understanding of mortgage banking accounting and financial operations.
- Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong general ledger, reconciliation, and financial reporting experience.
- Experience with mortgage loan accounting, warehouse lines, loan sales, or gain-on-sale accounting.
Preferred qualifications for the position include:- CPA or CPA-track experience preferred.
- Experience with a mortgage loan accounting platform or mortgage ERP/accounting system.
- Experience with financial statement preparation for a mortgage lender.
Pay Rate Range: $120,000 - $150,000 for salaried positions
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and location. Employees have access to healthcare benefits, including medical, dental, and vision as well as a 401(k) plan.
