Our client is a well-established, member-focused credit union with a strong regional presence and a growing mortgage division. They sit at the intersection of the credit union and broker worlds, offering the stability of W-2 employment and a robust member referral network alongside a high-autonomy, performance-driven environment. Following the acquisition of two branches in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud markets, they are looking for a motivated, community-oriented Mortgage Loan Originator to establish and grow their presence in Minnesota. This is a ground-floor opportunity for a self-starter who is energized by building something - someone who wants to plant a flag, own a market, and grow with an organization invested in their success.
Responsibilities
Prospect, build, and maintain relationships with realtors, builders, and community partners to generate self-sourced mortgage business
Interview applicants, take loan applications, and guide borrowers through the mortgage process from prequalification to closing
Represent the credit union at realtor and builder meetings, association events, and community networking functions
Analyze lending situations to identify opportunities to further assist borrowers and deepen the member relationship
Cross-sell additional credit union products and educate borrowers on the benefits of membership
Ensure all loan documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable federal and state regulations
Stay current on market trends, lending guidelines, and mortgage products; share relevant updates with appropriate team members
Provide periodic production reports and participate in product development and training initiatives as needed
Requirements
3–5 years of mortgage loan origination experience required — retail-to-mortgage transition candidates will not be considered for this market
Active NMLS license in the state of Michigan (or ability to obtain prior to start)
Demonstrated track record of self-generated purchase business — primarily driven by realtor and community relationships
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field preferred
Strong knowledge of mortgage loan programs, secondary market requirements, and federal/state lending regulations (including Regulation Z, FCRA, FHA/VA products)
Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
Highly self-motivated and comfortable operating with significant autonomy — no assigned office, minimal direct oversight
History of institutional loyalty; this role is built for someone looking to grow with an organization, not a frequent mover
Production target: $8–12M annually
