PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Mortgage Loan Processor is responsible for facilitating the efficient, accurate, and compliant processing of residential mortgage loan files from application through closing. This role directly supports MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union’s mission of Financially Empowering Central Iowa by ensuring members receive timely communication, clear guidance, and a smooth lending experience. The Mortgage Loan Processor collaborates closely with Mortgage Loan Officers, underwriting, and closing teams to deliver high-quality service in alignment with the credit union’s cooperative principles and service standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive, other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Review submitted mortgage applications for completeness and accuracy; request and collect outstanding documentation as needed.
  • Verify income, assets, liabilities, employment, credit reports, appraisals, and other required documents to ensure eligibility and compliance.
  • Prepare files for underwriting by organizing documentation, validating data, and ensuring file integrity.
  • Communicate with members to gather required information, clarify documentation needs, and provide status updates throughout the process.
  • Maintain professional, courteous communication that supports a positive member experience.
  • Collaborate with Mortgage Loan Officers, underwriters, and closing staff to resolve questions, address issues, and ensure timely progression of loans.
  • Ensure all disclosures, documents, and processes follow internal policies as well as federal and state mortgage regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lending regulations, processing standards, and investor requirements.
  • Monitor loan pipelines daily to ensure timely processing, documentation collection, and movement through underwriting and closing.
  • Track appraisal orders, title work, insurance verifications, and other third-party documentation.
  • Assist with clearing underwriting conditions and preparing files for closing.
  • Support cross-departmental needs and broader credit-union initiatives when required.
  • Participate in training, process improvements, and departmental projects.
  • Strong understanding of mortgage processing workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail with strong data verification and quality-control abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to serve members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also managing independent workloads.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of mortgage processing workflows, documentation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail with strong data verification and quality-control abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to serve members in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also managing independent workloads

LANGUAGE ABILITY

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory rules, trade literature, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. 

 COMPUTER SKILLS

  •  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency using data processing software as well as Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.
