What You’ll Be Doing:
Satisfactorily underwrites all mortgage loan programs/products offered by the credit union
Independently underwrites complex mortgage loan applicationsAnalyzes mortgage loan applications and required documentation; ensures fulfillment of all secondary market loan program guidelines and/or WESTconsin Credit Union policies
Ensures that all loans are underwritten in compliance with all federal and state requirements
Analyzes all loan risk factors and makes approval decisions within established limits
Makes approval recommendations to the AVP – Mortgage Quality and Underwriting, and/or the VP – Mortgage Lending for loans which exceed established limits
Verifies data accuracy and integrity by reconciling the data entered into the loan origination system with the documentation provided by members and/or third parties
Maintains high standards for mortgage loan quality and compliance
Informs Mortgage Loan Originators and/or Mortgage Processors of required documentation needed to satisfy any AUS findings and other applicable loan program guidelines
Reviews AUS findings, credit bureau reports, purchase contracts, and appraisals to ensure compliance with secondary market loan program guidelines and/or WESTconsin Credit Union policies
Reviews appraisals, title work, well and septic, flood certifications, child support dockets, and other applicable legal documentation and/or inspections
Maintains high standards of judgement and integrity
Has independent critical thinking skills based upon established credit union procedures and policies
Consistently demonstrates ethical decision-making, discretion, and confidentiality
Is trusted by leadership and respected by peers
Develops and maintains relationships with internal credit union teams
Collaborates with Mortgage Loan Originators and/or Mortgage Processors to effectively resolve any loan application deficiencies or exceptions identified
Is available to Mortgage Loan Originators and Mortgage Processors, and shares specific underwriting practices, considerations, and approaches
Effectively communicates loan decisions or requests for additional information and documentation
Collaborates with internal team members and departments; is an available mortgage resource to other WESTconsin Credit Union departments and employees
Assists Mortgage Lending Leadership
Assists with any secondary market rebuttals for proposed buybacks
Assists with on-going department compliance considerations and activities, such as HMDA and TRID
Assists with on-going process improvement initiatives; helps to identify recurring application deficiencies and means for improvement
Assists the AVP – Mortgage Quality and Underwriting with the review of and the updating of credit union mortgage policies
Assists the AVP – Mortgage Quality and Underwriting with department meetings and/or new employee training needs
Obtains and maintains relevant mortgage lending knowledge based upon general mortgage lending practices, credit union policies and procedures, and other industry resource
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and five years related experience in the financial services industry and/or mortgage underwriting experience
Strong written and oral communications skills with an emphasis on urgent and timely responses
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret mortgage regulations, technical journals, financial reports, legal documents, appraisals, and WESTconsin Credit Union policies
