Job SummaryWe are seeking an analytical, detail-oriented, and
fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and risk-assessing complex residential loan applications. You will verify financial documentation, analyze credit risk, and make definitive approval or denial decisions in strict compliance with investor, federal, and company guidelines. The ideal candidate can seamlessly communicate underwriting conditions to both English and Spanish-speaking teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Credit & Risk Analysis: Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, complex income structures (including self-employed, tax returns, and corporate structures), and asset statements.
- Appraisal Review: Review and analyze property appraisals to ensure the collateral meets investor and company safety and soundness standards.
- Underwriting Decisions: Issue timely, accurate, and well-documented credit decisions (Approval, Conditional Approval, Counter-offer, or Denial).
- Bilingual Communication: Clearly communicate underwriting conditions, guidelines, and decisions to Loan Officers, processors, and clients in both English and Spanish.
- Compliance: Ensure all loans meet automated underwriting system (AUS) findings, as well as TRID, FHA, VA, Conventional, and non-QM guidelines.
- Pipeline Efficiency: Manage a daily queue of new submissions and condition reviews utilizing Lending QD to meet company turn-time targets.
Requirements & Qualifications- Language:Native or professional fluency in both English and Spanish is strictly required (written and verbal).
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of recent experience as a front-end residential Mortgage Underwriter.
- Software:Hands-on experience with Lending QD is highly preferred. Experience with AUS (Desktop Underwriter / Loan Product Advisor) is mandatory.
- Certifications (Preferred but optional): FHA DE (Direct Endorsement) or VA SAR/LAPP designations are a major plus.
- Skills: Expert knowledge of complex income calculations, tax return analysis, and QM/ATR rules. Exceptional critical thinking and decision-making skills.
