Job Details
What You'll Do
- Design and develop motor controller hardware, from initial concept and architecture through testing and production.
- Partner with system architects and firmware engineers to translate system-level requirements into hardware specifications.
- Create schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer while following sound engineering and design practices.
- Perform electrical, thermal, and EMC analysis and simulation to validate designs and identify potential issues early.
- Build and test prototypes, troubleshoot hardware issues, and drive problems through to resolution.
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners on component selection, sourcing, production, and hardware support.
- Collaborate with firmware and software engineers on the integration and validation of motor-control algorithms and interfaces.
- Partner with quality and compliance teams to support regulatory requirements and industry certifications.
- Develop clear technical documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, and engineering reports.
- Stay current with advancements in motor control, power electronics, and hardware design—and bring new ideas to the team.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience designing motor controller hardware, ideally within automotive, robotics, industrial automation, or another complex electromechanical environment.
- Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB layout, particularly Altium Designer.
- Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, and signal processing.
- Practical knowledge of motor control theory, including techniques such as PID and FOC, along with feedback mechanisms.
- Experience designing or supporting 1–4 HP motor control systems.
- Hands-on experience with Brushed DC, Brushless DC, and AC Induction motors.
- Experience with active and passive Power Factor Correction (PFC).
- Experience designing, testing, and supporting flyback power supplies.
- Familiarity with SPICE or comparable simulation and design-verification tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to engineering.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on building reliable, high-quality hardware on schedule.
