About this Job

The Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) performs functions of the state relative to the examination and licensing of operators of motor vehicles, the suspension and revocation of such licenses, issuance of vehicle title and registration certificates, license plates for all motor vehicles operated upon the highways of the state, recordation of liens against vehicles, and the collection of sales/use tax and other appropriate fees, all in accordance with applicable laws.

The main duty of an MVCA is to provide excellent customer service to all customers, provide issuance of driver's licenses, identification cards, vehicle titles, and registrations, and the reinstatement of driving and registration privileges.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. May be required to possess a current Louisiana drivers license at the time of appointment.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers.

  • Interviews customers for driver's licenses, identification cards, vehicle title and registrations, and/or reinstatement of driving privileges.

  • Assess the physical and mental condition of applicants for licensing purposes.

  • Determines type of license required.

  • Reviews documents for eligibility and accuracy.

  • Administers and grades vision, knowledge, and road skills tests.

  • Inspects vehicles for safe operations to be used for skills test.

  • Collect and balance required fees.

  • Takes photographs for driver's license and identification card.

  • Inform customers by written and/or verbal communication regarding requirements and procedures for driver's licenses, identification cards, vehicle titles and registrations, and reinstatement.

  • Physically lift and count boxes weighing approximately 25 pounds when needed.

  • Analyzes motor vehicle documents to ensure compliance with Louisiana and federal law.

  • Work in conjunction with insurance companies, courts, law enforcement agencies, public officials, attorneys, other state agencies, etc.

  • Conducts interviews to resolve issues with cases in a timely manner.

  • Prepare documents for records that are needed.

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all records maintained by this department.

  • Testifies in court, if needed.

  • Operate equipment used in records processing.

  • Prepare and balance daily reports.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational, Job Appointment, or Promotional

Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression for a Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst 1-3.

  • The Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst job participates in what is called a career progression group (CPG). A CPG is a pre-defined list of titles that may be used to move employees up through the job series. Each level has a different pay range and base pay increases as an employee moves up through the titles. Movement (or what is called reallocation) happens as an employee gains more experience and successfully demonstrates proficiency in their job duties.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.Location: This position is located in Livingston Parish.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst Positions have a Special Entrance Rate as follows:

Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst 1--$1,213.60/biweekly

Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst 2--$1,298.40/biweekly

Motor Vehicle Compliance Analyst 3--$1,389.60/biweekly

Pay

  • Motor Vehicle Compliance Analysts who work at this Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) location receive an additional $2.00 per hour worked in addition to their hourly base pay.
  • All Motor Vehicle Compliance Analysts receive an additional hourly amount added to their base pay depending on how long they have worked for the Louisiana OMV. This, in addition to other types of pay, including market adjustments and promotions.
