SALARY RANGE $21-$33 PER HOUR (D.O.E.)
JOB SUMMARY
The Park City Recreation Department is seeking a dynamic self-starter to work as a seasonal mountain bike guide and instructor. The ideal applicant will promote a safe and fun environment, enjoy working outdoors and have knowledge & experience in the sport of enduro, cross-country, downhill and/or freeride mountain biking. This position requires an instructor who is available to work varied hours on weekday mornings and/or early evenings, part-time from June to September. Mountain bike instructors assist with and supervise youth and/or adults in recreational mountain biking programs, they interact with the public, and they provide instruction and information on trails, etiquette, safety, and the sport of mountain biking.
JOB DUTIES
• Guides, instructs, and assists a variety of youth and adult mountain biking programs.
• Informs participants of basic trail etiquette and safety protocol prior to ride.
• Performs basic mountain bike safety checks on participant’s bikes prior to ride and ensures the safety of program participants at all times.
• Responsible for keeping groups together and motivated while on the trail.
• Performs basic on-trail maintenance if needed –ex. adjusting seat, putting chains back in place if they come off; assists with the maintenance and upkeep of program equipment.
• Directs proper behavior and settles disputes among youth participants.
• Educates participants on proper and safe mountain biking skills and techniques.
• Maintains attendance for each class session and submit rosters to supervisor after sessions.
• Communicates progress with individual participants.
• Communicates clearly with Recreation Division Manager regarding schedule, equipment or facility needs or issues.
• Prepares program equipment and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Previous mountain biking experience.
• CPR & AED certification or ability to obtain.
• First aid certification or ability to obtain.
• Valid Utah Driver’s License.
Preferred:
• Previous teaching experience.
• Mountain Bike Instructor Certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hike, drive, talk and hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to use hands handle or operate objects, controls, or tools.
• Ability to climb and pull own weight in and out of equipment.
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
