JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Mover Driver is responsible for assisting with the relocation of program and corporate materials and furniture as programs open and close or as office spaces change. They would also be responsible for performing scheduled pick-ups and deliveries between sites for items such as boxes, donations, and other business-related items. They may transport program participants and staff as required, and deliver meals to outlying programs as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives company vehicles on a regular schedule, and as needed. Plans and follows the most efficient routes between locations;

  • Moves, loads, and unloads materials, tools, and packages from corporate and program locations as needed. Moves heavy furniture and appliances to new locations based on organizational needs;

  • Load vehicles with listed goods, ensuring goods are loaded correctly and taking precautions with hazardous or fragile goods. Unloads and sorts items collected and deliver them according to delivery notes;

  • Transports individual program participants to and from various locations such as human service locations, work sites, and medical facilities as needed

  • Assists with inventory management, vehicle loading, and timely delivery of items to various inter-agency locations as needed;

  • Conducts donation pick-up from outside agencies;

  • Maintains proper record keeping including:

  • Tracks messages or materials to be delivered

  • Records information on recipients such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, and delivery instructions (communicated via telephone, or in person)

  • Maintains trip records as well as mileage and gasoline usage records;

  • Maintains the program vehicle in good operating condition, keeping it clean vehicle and equipment after each pick-up and delivery, and takes the vehicle for routine maintenance and repairs;

  • Other duties as may be needed to fulfill program requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Services for this position must be provided on-site. As a result, the position requires incumbents to report to work on-site each day of active employment.

MANDATED REPORTER

As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness, mental-illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration and other challenges.

EDUCATION:

  • Current California driver's license and clean driving record

EXPERIENCE:

  • One-year experience as delivery or passenger driver.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Food handler certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or other language
