    Job Description

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education – Completion of a formal radiological program from an accredited college or hospital based program.  (Refer to Licenses & Certifications below for certification criteria).

    Experience – Prefer two (2) years relevant experience as a Radiologic Technologist with at least one (1) year experience in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging department. 

    Licenses & Certification – Current registration with the ARRT as a Magnetic Resonance Technologist or registry eligible status is preferred. CPR certification is required.

    Knowledge & Skills –

    1. Knowledge of the physics of Radiology, such as kilo voltage, Ma, and Time as well as an understanding of Physics of Magnetics.

    2. Ability to perform basic and advanced MRI functions independently and with minimal supervision.

    3. Ability to provide accurate diagnostic images and related functions using MRI scanning techniques and equipment.

    4. Skill and knowledge required to identify disease abnormalities and physiological process while performing MRI scans.

    5. Knowledge of methods, techniques and quality control required to accurately produce diagnostic images with optimum results.

    6. Skill in obtaining adequate diagnostic quality MRI scans on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques which deviate from the normal.

    7. Ability to perform MRI examinations in a variety of conditions such as emergency trauma and also have the ability to handle patients in trauma.

    8. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively to patients, other staff and the general public both orally and in writing. 

    JOB SUMMARY

    The primary purpose of the position is to perform all required Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanning procedures in accordance with established Radiological protocols. 

    WORK  ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in a hospital/outpatient health clinic environment. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and bio hazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved, and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.

    PHYSICAL  DEMANDS

    Work requires long periods of standing and walking.  Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, stretching and positioning patients.  Ability to lift 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

    1. Perform all required diagnostic MRI scanning procedures.

    2. Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated.

    3. Educate and prepare patients for examinations.

    4. Perform any necessary clerical work related to the obtaining of previous reports, X-Ray films, etc.

    5. Recognize and initiate treatment of allergic reactions and notify physician.

    6. Maintain MRI scanning equipment is in good operating order.

    7. Check and maintain emergency equipment within the scanning suite.

    8. Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned.

    9. Keep abreast of current technical literature and evaluates new procedures and techniques for the purpose of recommending them to the Radiology Supervisor.

    10. Expose and develop hard-copy film or CD from MRI images for distribution to the patient’s physicians and other hospitals.

    11. Maintain quality control of MRI equipment to ensure that both the computer and radiographic equipment are operating properly.        

    12. Responsible for maintaining Continuing Education (CE’s) and certifications as required.

    13. Regular attendance is required.

    14. Performs other duties as required by Radiology Supervisor.

    15. Reports directly to the Radiology Supervisor.
