Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs a variety of MRI procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols.  Functions as the first line interface with patients and physicians in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs MRIs on all patients and assures quality of image before releasing patient.
  • Ensures that equipment is in proper working order; informs appropriate personnel promptly when equipment is in need of repair.
  • Assists Radiologist with hard-to-move patients when requested; assists patients onto MRI machine and positions them correctly.
  • Utilizes all MRI equipment permitted within the scope of their license and within the realm of their training.
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment  to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.
  • Tracks patients and appropriately uses RIS (Radiology Information System, EMR and Patient Transport Tracking system
  • As required, transports patients to and from MRI Suite
  • Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Interacts professionally with patients and families
  • Obtain informed consent for the injection of contrast material from the patient.
  • Perform safe and efficacious insertion of a needle and catheter into patient’s upper extremity with administration of contrast media by both manual and mechanical means
  • Recognize any adverse reaction to contrast media and the procedure to follow in the event the patient experiences an adverse reaction.
Qualifications:

Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology or MRI Technology.

Current NYS license as a Registered Radiological Technologist or Registry eligible preferred.  Current NYS DOH Intravenous Contrast Administration Certificate required. New employees will be required to produce a current IVCA certificate within 6 months from date of hire. Current BCLS Certificate required (either American Red Cross or American Heart Association). New employees will be required to produce a current BCLS certificate within 6 months from date of hire. Current ARRT Certificate is required.   at least 1 year of experience in MRI preferred.  Good interpersonal skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position
