About the Facility – VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHCS)
The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System serves over 230,000 veterans in the Las Vegas metropolitan area and is part of the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). The main medical center, located at 6900 N. Pecos Road in North Las Vegas, is a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical, and mental health services. The Radiology Service features advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology. VASNHCS provides healthcare professionals with access to cutting-edge equipment, a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, and the opportunity to serve those who served our country.

MRI Technologist – Responsibilities
  • Perform all MRI examinations including routine and complex diagnostic studies of the brain, spine, musculoskeletal system, abdomen, pelvis, and vascular structures
  • Function as an expert regarding MRI software and hardware capabilities, selecting proper pulse sequences and optimizing system parameters for optimal image quality
  • Screen patients for MRI contraindications including implanted devices, metallic foreign bodies, and claustrophobia; ensure patient safety throughout all procedures
  • Coordinate the MRI patient examination schedule, prioritizing critical and emergency procedures
  • Assist with MRI-guided procedures including breast imaging and MR-guided biopsies using sterile technique
  • Perform venipuncture and administer contrast material for MRI examinations as necessary
  • Maintain quality assurance programs for the MRI system, laser imager, and patient monitoring equipment; perform daily quality control checks
  • Serve as liaison between the MRI department, engineering, and equipment manufacturers; facilitate software updates, hardware updates, and service calls
  • Monitor PACS system to ensure images are properly archived and transferred for radiologic interpretation
  • Cross-train radiologic technologists in MRI physics, positioning, coil selection, and MRI safety

MRI Technologist – Qualifications
  • Current ARRT registration in Radiography (R) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR)
  • Current BLS/BCLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years of MRI technologist experience in a hospital or medical center setting
  • Proficiency with multiple MRI systems and PACS; knowledge of MRI physics and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of IV contrast administration and recognition of adverse reactions
  • VA or federal healthcare experience preferred but not required
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Overtime and on-call may be required as assigned.
