MRI Technologist

Job Summary

Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the patient's body for diagnostic purposes.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform MRI examinations according to department policy and protocols.
• Prepare and position patients for MRI procedures of various body parts, including setting up equipment and positioning patients to provide the best demonstration of the body part under study.
• Conduct Quality Control tests on department equipment and report discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
• Collect and evaluate relevant examination information from scheduling, patients, and referring physicians, including screening information.
• Maintain departmental records and patient information according to policy.
• Respond to patient physical and psychological needs, keeping them informed and explaining all procedures clearly and concisely.
• Perform safety procedures for outpatients, inpatients, patient families, and hospital staff, screening for metal objects or implants that could cause harm.
• Ensure no patient, visitor, or healthcare worker enters the scan room with contraindicated items.
• Evaluate the results of scanning procedures for quality and completeness, manipulating images through the console to display to physicians.
• Send images to the PACS system, evaluate exams for completeness, and verify exams in a timely manner.
• Develop a working knowledge of all PACS capabilities.
• Maintain accurate documentation on logbook worksheets and charge for examinations and supplies.
• Seek advice from appropriate resources when unsure of protocol or policy.
• Exercise independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
• Work directly with patients and customers, as well as internal and external healthcare professionals and staff.

Required Skills & Experience

• Zero (0) to six (6) months of related experience.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently.

Required Education

• Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
• OR
• Completion of an MRI accredited program.

Required Certification & Licensure

• Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R).
• OR
• American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
• BLS

Preferred Certification & Licensure

• ARRT (MR).
