MRSS Peer Recovery Advocate *Must* have current certification in Ohio as a Peer Support Specialist -OR- able to obtain in 90 days of employment Experience in Youth Peer Support Required The Peer Support Advocate promotes self-recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, well-being, and independence for clients. The Peer Support Specialist assists in implementing and creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual. Peer Specialist promote a trauma informed care organization and diversity competence, encourages self-direction, and advocate for informed choice. Peer Support Specialists may be utilized in outpatient and primary care service lines. RESPONSIBILITIES - Supporting individuals in achieving personal independence as identified by the individual ongoing exploration of recovery needs
- Encouraging hope and supporting the development of life skills such as budgeting and connecting to community resources and developing and working toward achievement of personal recovery goals with clients
- Modeling personal responsibility for recovery
- Teaching skills to effectively navigate to the health care delivery system to effectively and efficiently utilize services and promoting coordination and linkage among similar providers
- Providing training to patients that addresses symptoms or behaviors through processes that assist an individual in eliminating barriers to seeking or maintaining recovery, employment, education or housing.
- Assisting with accessing and developing natural support systems in the community;
- Coordinating or assisting in crisis interventions or stabilization as needed;
- Conducting outreach.
- Complete GPRA in timely manner for all eligible primary care clinic patients
- Ability to travel between outpatient offices to provide peer support to patients treated in MHS primary care clinics
- Follows all universal precautions for safety, infection control and follows all state, federal and joint commission health and safety standards.
- Treats patients and family with dignity and respect at all times, and holds all patient information in the strictest confidence.
- Adhere to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission standards, including National Patient Safety Goals. Presents a positive image of MHSCC to other community agencies, caregivers and citizens
- Completes all MHS required education and training, including initial agency orientation, mandatory trainings and educations, and up keep of all required certifications and licensure as required by state, federal and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other job-related tasks as assigned
Education/Experience - High School Diploma or Equivalent
Licensure/Certifications - Current certification as an Ohio Peer Support Specialist (Required)
- NVCI (as required per department)
- CPR (BLS)/First Aid
MHS provides CPR (BLS)/First Aid and NVCI (CPI Blue Card) for all new staff, along with on-going education and on-the-job training opportunities. All MHS candidates are required to have an Ohio BCI check (FBI check required if you have lived in Ohio for less than 5 years, or for working with children), 5-panel drug screen and Residential candidates must have a 2-step TB (or proof of prior TB) upon conditional offer of employment.
