Summary
The Onalaska Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our athletic department as a seasonal assistant coach for the boys' basketball team. The ideal candidate will work closely with the head coach to develop players' skills, promote teamwork, and foster a positive and competitive environment. This position requires a strong commitment to the development of young athletes, both on and off the court.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices and training sessions for the boys' basketball team.
- Support the development of individual player skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, and defensive techniques.
- Help implement game strategies and tactics during practices and competitions.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork.
- Monitor and assess player performance, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Assist with the organization and supervision of team events, including games, tournaments, and fundraising activities.
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and school administration regarding team progress and expectations.
- Ensure compliance with all school policies, league rules, and safety regulations.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Requirements
- Previous coaching or playing experience in basketball, preferably at the middle school or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and game rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young athletes.
- Ability to motivate and inspire players to achieve their personal and team goals.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain certification.
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the basketball season.
