Heritage Christian School is seeking a Middle School Head Coach. The coach will interact directly with student-athletes, coaches, parents, and as a representative of HCS Athletics to be a highly visible platform for the exhibition of Christian character. The employeeis to live and coach in such a way so that student-athletes are led to righteousness in every area of life, and in particular their athletic development. The head coach is committed to fostering an environment of encouragement, teamwork, and excellence; not criticism, individualism, or perfectionism. It is the desire of our teams to play to win, but more importantly to glorify God.

The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. In addition, demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance and punctuality. Meet the stress of athletic competition with emotional stability and positive words/actions. The employee will establish and maintain excellent working relationships, representing Christ and HCS professionally and positively with the HCS community-at-large, including faculty and staff, Board members, parents, volunteers and others is crucial to the success of this role.

Prior coaching or playing experience is preferred. Previous managerial experience is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with Varsity coaches in fundamentals, drills, patterns, offenses, defenses, conditioning, and coaching techniques.
  • Monitoring and enforcing compliance with HCS rules and regulations.
  • Instructing student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Teaching athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport.
  • Upholding team expectations and providing accountability to the student-athletes.
  • Promoting and encouraging the success of all other programs, emphasizing the need to share multi-sport athletes and to collaborate fruitfully with students, parents, and staff to balance our students' investment in academics.
  • Providing supervision of the gym/field/locker room, etc at all times when athletes are present. Securing facilities when done.
  • Coaching from a Biblical perspective and striving to be a true reflection of Jesus Christ to our athletes.
  • Setting an example of the importance of church attendance, prayer and Bible study.
  • Creating a winning environment by displaying a positive attitude and providing daily encouragement to those under their leadership, helping to build strong relationships.
  • Following the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, administration, and staff.
  • Supporting the Administration in carrying out the mission of the school.
  • Recognizing that parents are primarily responsible before God for their child and partnering with them.
  • Encouraging students to accept God's gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
  • Emphasizing to students the reality of their own self-worth in Christ.
  • Promoting honesty, integrity, humility, loyalty, unity and encouraging total character development of our athletes.
