MS Head Basketball Coach

SUMMARY

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to lead our middle school basketball program at Onalaska MS. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive team environment. This seasonal position is focused on coaching, mentoring, and guiding young athletes in their basketball journey while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement practice plans that enhance player skills and team performance.
• Conduct daily practices and prepare the team for games, focusing on both individual and team development.
• Instill a strong sense of sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline among players.
• Organize and oversee all aspects of the basketball program, including scheduling games and coordinating transportation.
• Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and promote a balance between academics and athletics.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, expectations, and performance.
• Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages participation and growth for all players, regardless of skill level.
• Attend all games and practices, providing guidance and support to players both on and off the court.
• Collaborate with other coaches and staff to ensure a cohesive athletic program within the school.
• Adhere to all school and district policies, as well as state and national regulations regarding middle school athletics.

REQUIREMENTS

• Previous coaching experience, preferably at the middle school or high school level.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
• Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment for all team members.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred, or willingness to obtain prior to the season.
• Must pass a background check and comply with all district requirements for coaching staff.
• Availability to commit to the entire basketball season, including practices, games, and meetings.
• A passion for teaching and developing young athletes both on and off the court.
