The Hillsboro School District is seeking an Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 school year. The MS/HS Athletic Director will foster a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and families.

Core responsibilities include:

  • leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs

  • creating effective parent, teacher, and student communications

  • supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating the coaching staff

  • fostering teamwork among teachers, coaching staff, and families.

The ideal candidate will have strong decision-making, analytical, organizational, and instructional leadership skills. Primary Purpose

The Athletic Director is responsible for leadership, management, and overall operation of the middle/high school''s interscholastic athletic and co-curricular sports programs. This role ensures compliance with Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) rules, district policies, and Title IX requirements, while providing a safe, equitable, and positive environment for student-athletes, coaches, families, and community stakeholders.

  • High School Principal

  • District Administrator (as assigned)

Supervises

  • Coaches and activity advisors

  • Athletic department staff

  • Event personnel and volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATION

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required

Licensure

  • Valid Wisconsin Administrative License - typically Principal (#51) or an equivalent administrative credential issued by Wisconsin DPI preferred, but not required.

Experience & Skills

  • Successful classroom teaching experience (5+ years or more) preferred

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, families, and community partners

  • Experience in athletic administration and/or coaching at the high school level

  • Knowledge of WIAA rules and competitive athletic programming

  • Budgeting and financial management experience

Typical Work Context

  • Full-time, school calendar year position

  • Work includes time in offices, school events, and community meetings

  • Evenings, weekends, and travel are required for athletic events and meetings
