Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to provide factual, impartial reports of findings and perform complex digital data recovery examinations on computers, cell phones, mobile computers and hand-held devices in a forensically sound manner. These exams are in support of criminal investigations that involve various forms of digital evidence submitted for analysis to Technical Investigations Section, Digital Forensics Laboratory of the Maryland State Police. This job function provided essential support to criminal and administrative investigations conducted by the Maryland State Police and allied agencies throughout the state.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:Â Seven years of experience, three years of experience in computer forensics or information technology related experience and four additional years of experience performing digital recovery examinations on computers.
Note: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor''s degree in information technology, computer science, criminal justice, or a related field and three years of experience in computer forensics or information technology related experience for the required experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties, which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorâs license valid in the State of Maryland
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for positions in the classification will be subject to a complete criminal background investigation and polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
Employees in this classification must have access to an automobile for use on official business in the event a State vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position.
