    General Job Description:

    Position Overview

    IES Residential is seeking a Multi-Family HVAC Superintendent to join our team. Previous HVAC field leadership and multi-family construction experience is preferred. We are looking for a highly organized, safety-focused professional who can effectively oversee HVAC field operations, lead foremen and installation crews, coordinate manpower and project schedules, and support the successful completion of multi-family construction projects.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise and coordinate daily HVAC construction and field operations across assigned multi-family job sites.
    • Manage HVAC foremen, installation crews, subcontractors, vendors, and field activities to ensure project schedules, productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
    • Review mechanical plans, blueprints, specifications, schedules, field drawings, and installation documents to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely project completion.
    • Plan workforce needs and allocate manpower effectively across assigned projects to meet construction schedules and operational requirements.
    • Monitor job progress, field productivity, installation quality, safety, and code compliance throughout all phases of HVAC construction.
    • Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, customers, office staff, other trades, and field teams regarding project schedules, manpower needs, and operational updates.
    • Identify and resolve field-related issues, including installation concerns, scheduling delays, manpower conflicts, trade coordination issues, and other operational challenges.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, safety regulations, applicable building and mechanical codes, customer requirements, and operational procedures.
    • Maintain accurate job site documentation, including daily reports, inspections, progress updates, and project records.
    • Attend project coordination and production meetings to support project scheduling, manpower planning, and successful field execution.
    • Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, material coordination, equipment usage, and other field resources.
    • Provide leadership, training, coaching, and support to HVAC foremen and field personnel to promote accountability, technical development, and high-performing crews.
    • Support employee onboarding, skill development, and HVAC installation training initiatives for field personnel.
    • Foster a positive, safety-focused work environment and reinforce proper PPE, safe work practices, and installation standards across field teams.
    • Contribute as a team player in a fast-paced, high-pressure construction environment.
    • Maintain professionalism and excellent customer service at all times.
    • Perform additional administrative and operational support tasks as needed.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
    Minimum Education: None Minimum Years of Experience: 4-6 Specific Qualifications:

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC field experience, including 3–5 years of supervisory, foreman, superintendent, or field leadership experience preferred.
    • Multi-family residential HVAC construction experience, including apartment, condominium, townhome, or mixed-use construction projects, preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, materials, installation methods, construction practices, safety standards, and applicable codes.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage manpower planning, scheduling, installation quality, and field productivity across multiple projects.
    • Strong leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical plans, drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively identify and resolve field-related issues.
    • Ability to effectively coordinate with project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, other trades, and field personnel.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Valid driver's license and driving record meeting company insurance requirements.
    • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
    • English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Spanish speaking preferred.
    • Maintain professionalism and a positive, respectful demeanor with customers, coworkers, contractors, and business partners.

     

    Education/Experience

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of 5 years of HVAC field experience, with 3–5 years of supervisory, foreman, superintendent, or field leadership experience preferred.
    • Experience managing HVAC installations for multi-family residential, apartment, condominium, townhome, or mixed-use construction projects preferred.
    • Relevant HVAC or industry certifications and licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.

     

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    • Use hand tools, power tools, equipment, phones, tablets, and other mobile technology devices as required.
    • Ability to effectively multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing project schedules, manpower needs, and operational demands.
    • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended shifts as project and business needs require.
    • Stand, walk, climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
    • Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
    • Work on active construction sites, indoors and outdoors, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
    • Visually inspect HVAC installations and identify workmanship, safety, installation, or code compliance concerns.
    • Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment and follow established job site safety requirements.
    • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet project and operational needs.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
    • Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including through tablets, smartphones, and other office technology.
    • Travel frequently to assigned project sites and throughout the assigned territory as required to support project and operational needs.
    • Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position.
    • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
