Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.TEGNA is seeking a fulltime Meteorologist to support the weather forecasting and live news programming in various TEGNA television stations. In this unique role, you will be at the forefront of forecasting and presenting weather to viewers across multiple TEGNA markets, primarily serving stations in TEGNA's Texas and Mid-South regions. Because this role will be supporting various markets, depending on the need, the winning candidate is an expert in all forms of severe weather forecasting and weather patterns unique to these regions. In addition, this role will be involved with creating online content and contributing to programs on our streaming products. Based in any TEGNA market, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your expertise and work in tandem with weather teams at various TEGNA stations. This position requires flexibility with scheduling including weekends, mornings, evenings and holidays.ResponsibilitiesDeliver accurate weather forecasts across multiple platforms, from traditional broadcasts to cutting‑edge digital and streaming servicesPartner with numerous TEGNA stations to present weather and create weather content that grows audience to all TEGNA platformsFill in on morning, evening and weekend shifts to cover staffing needs throughout the year at TEGNA stations across the countryLearn the geography and unique weather patterns at a number of TEGNA television markets around the countryCreate engaging weather explainers and stories across multiple platforms (on‑air, streaming, digital, social) to educate our audienceContribute to the growth of our digital and streaming platforms with innovative contentCollaborate with a team of passionate weather professionals to push the boundaries of weather storytellingRequirementsBachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science4+ years of on‑air experience as a Broadcast MeteorologistCoverage expertise in various severe weather environments (tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, snow/blizzard, freeze, etc.)AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal, a plusMastery of weather graphics systems (The Weather Company/WSI) and digital media platformsWillingness to work nights, weekends, and holidaysAbility to travel to cover breaking weather events or contribute to other marketsAbility to work independently and multi‑task confidently under tight deadlinesBe consistent & proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systemsLive field anchoring and reporting skills will set your application apartAdditional NotesAccess to cutting‑edge weather technology and resourcesOpportunity to serve and connect with multiple communitiesPlatform to showcase your creativity in weather storytellingCollaborative team environment focused on innovation and excellencePay Range$80,000 - $95,000 USDTEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
