Job Description:
The Office of Marketing & Communications works to advance the university's mission and reputation by communicating key messages to internal and external audiences and showcasing the scholarly and research achievements of students, employees, and alumni. This position is a valuable component of the thriving LSU communications ecosystem. It contributes to and supports the Office of Marketing & Communications' mission. This position must build relationships with local and statewide media, but has a primary focus on working with the national media to obtain positive national and international media coverage for LSU and to build LSU's national and global reputation. This includes knowledge of national media outlets and national reporters, successfully pitching LSU stories and experts to national media, writing and editing press releases and other content, and organizing media events and press conferences. This position may also assist with writing formal statements on behalf of the university, may serve as a university spokesperson, and will work closely with faculty and university officials to gather the necessary information to effectively tell LSU's story to all audiences. The position is essential personnel who will also serve as a PIO on the LSU EOC.
Job Responsibilities:
30%: Work with colleagues in Marketing & Communications to creatively tell LSU's story visually through video and photography and find ways to make LSU's academic/research stories newsworthy to national audiences. Work with various communicators across campus and the LSU System to coordinate and strategize public relations and media relations efforts through video/photography assets.
30%: Maintain video and photography assets for use by Marketing & Communications office as well as campus and system communicators. Search and provide requested video/photography for office.
30%: Coordinate and Produce video and photography assets by request for social media, website, press events, and external media partners
10%: Essential personnel: assist with media inquiries during times of crisis or emergencies to potentially include working in LSU's Emergency Operations Center. May include after hours work. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, English or related field with 3 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, English or related field with 3 - 5 years of experience. Copy writing and editing experience. Knowledge of Associated Press style. Experience serving in or working with the news media.
Special or Physical Qualifications (if applicable):
Ability to work extended hours, nights and weekends-including overnight-in the event of a crisis. May be required to work after hours to meet deadlines or to manage time-sensitive issues.
According to PS-18, this position is deemed essential and may be required to report to campus in times of closure or emergency.
