A Day on the Route

You’ll operate a commercial truck across designated routes, ensuring customers receive reliable service while upholding safety and quality standards. Here’s how your day unfolds:

  • Drive a commercial vehicle to collect waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
  • Model safe, compliant work practices and ensure any helpers or third parties follow Company policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a mentor/resource to other drivers when assigned to help maintain operational standards.
  • Open container enclosures or gates; position cans on casters for safe and efficient dumping.
  • Keep customer sites and roads clean by removing debris that may spill during collection and dumping.
  • Clear waste from the packer blade and truck body at the landfill to keep equipment operating safely and productively.
  • Complete daily pre- and post-trip inspections; submit vehicle condition reports at shift end.
  • Engage courteously with customers and the public; escalate issues requiring management attention.
  • Maintain a DOT logbook, daily route/productivity sheets, and post-trip inspection reports as required.
  • Maneuver in tight spaces; back using mirrors with precision.
  • Use a key map and/or GPS to accurately locate service addresses.
  • Follow safe operating practices including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Monitor for loose debris visually and by sound; scan customer sites before and after service.
  • Adhere to DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED desired.
  • Valid CDL Class A or B; 21 years of age or older.
  • At least one (1) year of commercial driving experience OR a CDL school certificate.
  • Meets Company standards for safety-sensitive functions.
  • Proven ability to safely drive the truck and operate equipment.

Skills That Set You Up for Success

  • Working knowledge of truck systems/components and basic maintenance for safe operation.
  • Expert equipment control; able to maneuver into/out of tight clearances and back 120+ feet using mirrors.
  • Recognizes unacceptable or hazardous waste (e.g., gasoline, flammables).
  • Clear communicator with customers and teammates; reads/writes route documents and maps.
  • Follows oral and written instructions; embraces change and continuous improvement.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 50 lbs repeatedly using proper technique.
  • Coordinates multiple limbs while seated or standing to operate safely.
  • Committed to all Company safety policies and procedures.

Physical & Sensory Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; must be able to climb, balance, talk, hear, and smell.
  • Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment for tight/high-traffic maneuvering.
  • Lift/move up to 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Sitting up to 75% of the shift due to the driving nature of the role.
  • Work in usually loud conditions.

Where You’ll Work

  • Outdoor environments up to 100% of the time; frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, rain/storms, extreme heat/cold, moving parts, vibration, toxic/caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Routes are away from the branch much of the day; constant motor vehicle traffic.
  • Occasional work at heights or in precarious places.
  • Overall work environment is usually loud.
