JOB DESCRIPTION - ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) PARAEDUCATOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Assist in carrying out instructional programs for students enrolled as English Language Learners (ELL). This includes working with individual students and/or small groups, acting as a liaison between the school and home, and assisting with assessment testing.
Reports to and evaluated by: Assistant Director of Special Programs
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Tutors students individually or in small groups in prescribed learning activities; ensures student understanding of material. Carries out specific ELL programs to meet student needs.
Works closely with classroom teachers to correlate tutoring with class work.
Acts as a liaison between teaching and support staff and parents to address learning, attendance, behavioral, and/or social concerns.
Monitors progress of assigned students.
Collects and assists in grading student assignments and completes record keeping for District/State requirements.
Prepares materials for student use.
Assists in resolving problems caused by cultural differences.
May accompany students on field trips; assists in field trip planning.
Administers prepared assessment tests and program prescriptive activities; maintains records of testing results. Attends program related staff meetings; attends parent-teacher conferences to share information regarding students when requested.
Strives to remain current on ELL teaching strategies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
