JOB SUMMARY: The Multilingual (ML) Student Success Specialist supports culturally and
linguistically diverse students and families to ensure student success. The position works
independently to maintain caseloads of students/families by coordinating resources, collaborating
with staff, and building positive professional relationships. One of the key outcomes for this role
is increased graduation rates for ML students in the school district. Additionally, this position
uses bilingual/multilingual and English proficiency with students/families as needed to perform
essential duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Success and Graduation
Collaborates with school staff to identify at-risk students as defined by low academic
progress, behavior concerns, poor attendance, and other related criteria.
Advocates for multilingual student needs and collaborates with staff to ensure students have
access to appropriate coursework and resources.
Maintains a caseload of students/families to achieve on-time graduation goals. Supports
students and families so that they can understand and navigate the USA school system.
Utilizes information systems to generate reports and compile student data for 9-12th grade
ML students to ensure on time graduation. Submits reports for the purpose of tracking the
progress of the program.
Meets regularly with teachers to review student progress in general education classes to
identify students in need of assistance. Collaborates with teachers and principals to arrange
support for students.
Monitors progress of ML students towards graduation, particularly seniors. Provides updates
to principals, certificated staff, administrators, and/or families regarding student progress.
Under the direction of the director, this position may complete home visits to check in on
students/families.
Transcript Evaluations and New Students
Works with registrars at assigned sites to identify when new students are registered. Supports
building and enrollment staff with identification of MLs and adequate record keeping.
Supports appropriate translation and evaluation of international transcripts. Collaborates with
the District Registrar and Department of Multilingual Education to ensure credits are counted
and assigned appropriately.
Meets with new multilingual students and families. Provides tours and orientations of the
campus/school. Connects students with teachers and other student staff.
Works with counselors and the ML teachers to create student schedules.
Community Liaison

Acts as liaison with community agencies, promoting on-site collaboration. Makes referrals to
community agencies for families.
Works with Family and McKinney-Vento Coordinators to provide educational supplies,
clothing, housing resources and referrals to community based organizations to promote
student success, as needed.
Develops strong professional relationships with community contacts. Advocates for
resources and support for students/families in need.
WIDA Support
Administer WIDA screener for newly enrolled students according to the Home Language
Survey.
Support the WIDA annual testing plan with administrator and Test Coordinator.
Other Essential Functions
Provides professional development to teachers, paraeducators, and other staff on topics
related to multilingual education.
Attend relevant meetings as a member of problem solving teams when ML students are
involved.
Follows all protocols and procedures to ensure student safety/confidentiality. Ensures that
students and families are aware of educational rights.
Maintains regular and consistent attendance. Work must be provided onsite and in person.
Administers first aid, as necessary.
Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in education,
human services or other related fields.
At least one (1) year of work experience with mentoring students.
Bilingual/multilingual proficiency is required.
All certificates, transcripts, or degrees completed outside of the U.S.A or Canada must
be evaluated by a member from the National Association of Credential Evaluation
Services (NACES). The final evaluation report must confirm education equivalent to a
minimum two years of college-level credit or a degree (AA, BA, MA) from an accredited
college in the United States.

Developmental stages and learning styles of students.
Best practices for integrating students into new schools and communities.
Educational rights of families, children, and youth displaced by disasters or other life-
changing events.

Skill in:
Identifying and meeting the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Communicating effectively with students, staff and families to ensure student success.
Providing tutoring and mentoring services to students.
Maintaining records in an organized manner.
Operating a computer, phone, and office equipment.
Reading, writing, spelling, and math computation.
Building reports and collecting data.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively in English and at least one other language.
Collect, evaluate, and communicate data in order to better serve students.
Demonstrate awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and
demonstrate commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community.
Work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students.
Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
Set priorities and complete assigned tasks in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
Learn the operation of District adopted software.
Mentor and support students in afterschool programs.
Protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with HIPAA/FERPA.
Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications (or ability to acquire within 3
months upon hire)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of
an interest in supporting learning experiences.
Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Classroom setting. May work outdoors in inclement weather. Exposure to infectious diseases and
illnesses carried by children. Experiences frequent interruptions. Noise level in the work
environment can vary depending on daily activity and may occasionally be moderate to
high. Occasionally required to work evenings/weekends to meet the needs of students/families.

Amount of standing, sitting and walking will vary depending on the age of students and program
assignments. Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and
stoop, kneel or crouch. Must lift/carry up to 25 pounds (books, files, learning resources,
equipment, etc.) on a regular basis. Anything over 50 pounds should be performed as a two-
person lift or with a mechanical lift.
