The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (HBREL) is an international leader in honey bee research, instruction, and Extension. Each year, we work with beekeepers, educators, regulators, and more to develop practical and accessible training for beekeepers in Florida and around the world. Join our team of dedicated professionals making a difference in the lives of Florida’s beekeepers and the honey bee industry. The Multimedia Specialist will oversee HBREL media, develop content, design for web and print, oversee online courses, and manage social media.

Classification Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience.

Job Description:

Media Production

Oversee the production of the lab’s media (podcast, videos, etc). This entails (1) scheduling guests and selecting episode topics, (2) editing segments and episodes, (3) releasing and promoting content (4) organizing supporting content and additional resources per episode, and (5) ensuring content is ADA compliant

Develop both short-form and long-form educational and promotional video content for stakeholders across various platforms as needed. 

Capture footage of HBREL Extension workshops and events, which may require travel by car to various locations.

Graphic Design

Design graphics for UF/IFAS HBREL online graphics standards.

Update and revise graphic templates as needed.

Develop all necessary printed and virtual materials for HBREL Extension workshops and events, including but not limited to the UF/IFAS Bee College biannual event.

Coordinate the printing of all necessary materials by appropriate deadlines.

Web & Course Management

Maintain and update the HBREL website (www.ufhoneybee.com).

Troubleshoot and correct any web issues that arise.

Oversee the UF/IFAS HBREL online courses. This entails (1) communicating with participants enrolled in the courses, (2) grading submitted assignments in a timely manner, (3) keeping an organized record of student requirements, (4) issuing certificates when students have completed all necessary requirements to complete the course.

Promote all HBREL online courses.

Social Media Management

Collaborate on the development of social media content.

Create and maintain an active social media content schedule.

Respond to any inquiries made to HBREL social media.

Post educational and promotional content as needed.

Track Annual Extension Reporting Data

Collect and document numbers from audience engagement.

Document impact from content created.

Expected Salary:

$19.16 - 22.03 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience.

Preferred:
  • Experience or coursework in podcast & video production.

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Audition, Premier Pro).

  • Experience with Spotify for Podcasters and YouTube.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with social media management and content planning (Instagram, Facebook, X, Meta Business Suite).

  • Familiarity with audio & video editing.

  • Familiarity with graphic design principles, UF/IFAS design guidelines, and ADA compliance.

  • Familiarity with web design principles, UF/IFAS web guidelines, and ADA compliance.

  • Experience in Terminal4 preferred, but not required.

  • Good verbal and writing skills: able to develop project management plans and communication management plans with the ability to have exceptional time management.

  • Communication skills: ability to communicate across workstreams, university administration, and various beekeeping related stakeholders.

  • Attention to detail

  • Proactive and perceptive

  • Team player

  • Knowledge of honey bees and/or beekeeping is preferred but not required.
