About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerces (Department) mission is to support and apply necessary regulations to agricultural-related businesses within the state and to promote Mississippis products throughout both the state and the rest of the world for the benefit of Mississippi citizens. The Department is dedicated to promoting and heightening the publics awareness of Mississippis agricultural history, agricultural commodities, and the farmers and ranchers who produce them through participation in trade shows, conferences, and various other community and agricultural-related organizations. Through its various bureaus, the Department seeks to protect health and economic welfare in conjunction with Mississippis agricultural and horticultural interests. These activities include registering pesticides, feeds, seeds, fertilizers, and soil amendments, as well as permitting all pest control operators throughout the state. The Department conducts inspections of producers, grocery stores, meat establishments, fuel stations, and other commercial operations to ensure adherence to applicable regulations including, without limitation, food safety and the certification of weighing and measuring devices used in commerce. About the Position

The Multimedia Specialist Supervisor position serves within the Marketing and Governmental Affairs Division of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC). This division is responsible for promoting Mississippi agriculture and the state's agricultural products while working with policymakers and stakeholders on key issues. Core functions of the division include outreach/communications, market development programs, and grant and cost-share programs. The Multimedia Specialist Supervisor position is responsible for the design and production of multiple and complex documents and information and management of graphic design projects and teams. This position supports the Department's communications and public outreach efforts by overseeing the development and distribution of information that promotes its programs, services, and initiatives. This position oversees media relations, digital communications, publications, special events, and other outreach efforts designed to effectively communicate with the public, media, stakeholders, and industry partners. This position serves in a supervisory role, supervising the communication team. - The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Serves as the Editor of the Mississippi Market Bulletin, responsible for the production and design of the layout, insertion of ads, and maintaining the subscriber database. Serves as the media liaison for the Department, responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, and providing information to reporters. Supervises and provides day-to-day direction to the communications team, ensuring public relations and communications activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Writes, edits, and distributes press releases, media advisories, public notices, articles, newsletters, talking points, and other communications materials. Collaborates with internal divisions and programs to identify newsworthy activities and communications opportunities. Develops and maintains relationships with media representatives, industry organizations, stakeholders, and communications partners. Plans and coordinates press conferences, media events, public appearances, and special events. Monitors news coverage and relevant industry developments and maintains records of media coverage. Represents the Department at various events such as field days, school activities, trade shows, conferences as needed. Assists with planning and implementing agency activities for Genuine MS, Farmers Markets, State Fair, Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo, conferences, and other events as needed; will work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours in connection with these events. Other duties as assigned by the Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Chief of Staff, Deputy Commissioner, and/or Marketing and Governmental Affairs Director. (This is a Non-State, (X-16) position).

What youll need to be Successful

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong knowledge of grammar, editing, and professional writing standards. Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with staff, media representatives, public officials, industry stakeholders, and the general public. Familiarity with social media platforms, website content management, and digital communications. Basic knowledge of photography, graphic design, and programs including Meltwater, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred. Proficient in Adobe InDesign for purposes of the Mississippi Market Bulletin.
