Position Overview
 
Reporting to the Education Manager with overall approval from the Head of Education, this position
plans and presents community education programs to increase awareness of the McNay's institutional mission, vision, values, and goals and enhance relationships with community members and organizations.
 
Essential Job Functions
 
  1. Organizes community meetings to build relationships with teaching artists, community organizations and cultural centers.
  2. Attends relevant community events and facilitates relevant activities on and offsite in support of McNay programs and/ or to network with fellow educator colleagues. Approval of attendance and facilitation overseen by Education Manager. 
  3. Co-creates and organizes outreach programs that address multigenerational audiences and promotes Museum initiatives such as partnerships with community organizations and institutions, free community events, and summer camp activities. This task includes co-drafting budgets, vetting appropriate educators, and communicating with managers and program participants. Overseen by Education Manager.
  4. Provides orientation and training on the collection and exhibitions for vendors, contractors, and performers involved with community programs. Informs staff, Teen Art Guides, docents, and volunteers on all content related to community engagement. Overseen by Education Manager.
  5. Co-creates content for the art cartand informs and trains staff and volunteers on its contents.
  6. Captures and reports on engagement data to analyze and measure program impact through surveys and other means of data collection. Overseen by Education Manager.
  7. Assists in facilitating other education programs with the Education team. Contributes innovative ideas to budget meetings, in-gallery engagements for exhibitions, and other museum initiatives as set forth by Head of Education.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
 
Education and Experience
Graduate or undergraduate degree in social studies, social work, communications, public administration, public health or other related fields, or equivalent experience.
 
Requirements
· Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong customer service skills.
· Background in education and community engagement, public policy, social work, or behavioral science.
· Desire to work with multigenerational audiences from children to seniors is a must.
· Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
· Must be willing to travel locally for offsite programs.
 
Other Skills
· Event coordinating experience and experience with community organizations.
· Proficiency in using MS Office software such as Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint, Adobe Creative Suite software, Zoom and Slack.
· Ability to work collaboratively with the public, staff, and volunteers, and create an individual workflow.
· Spanish or other language fluency highly preferred.
 
Work Experience
Two + years of working in community engagement and/ or public policy fields. Two + years of public administration or equivalent experience.
