    Music Director

    Reports To: Pastor
    Works With: Technical Director, Musicians, Singers, and Worship Volunteers

    Position Summary

    The Part-Time Music Director provides musical leadership and coordination for weekly worship services and special events. This position ensures musicians, singers, tracks, and musical elements are prepared and organized while working closely with the Technical Director to create a smooth and excellent worship experience.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Prepare music, arrangements, keys, transitions, tracks, stems, click tracks, and other musical resources for worship services.
    • Coordinate and schedule musicians and singers for rehearsals, services, and special events.
    • Communicate song selections, arrangements, rehearsal times, call times, and expectations to the worship team.
    • Lead rehearsals and provide musical direction during worship services.
    • Ensure musicians and singers have the resources needed to prepare before rehearsal.
    • Coordinate volunteers who support the music and worship ministry.
    • Recruit and develop additional musicians, singers, and volunteers as needed.
    • Coordinate musical setup and ensure instruments, tracks, charts, and other resources are ready for rehearsal and service.
    • Collaborate with the Technical Director regarding stage setup, soundcheck, inputs, monitors, playback systems, tracks, and other production needs.
    • Communicate technical and musical needs early enough for appropriate preparation.
    • Assist with music preparation for holidays, special services, and church events.
    • Help maintain an organized, prepared, spiritually healthy, and collaborative worship ministry.

     

    Weekly Expectations

    The Music Director is expected to oversee the basic weekly process of:

    Prepare  Communicate  Rehearse  Soundcheck  Lead  Evaluate

    The goal is to minimize last-minute preparation and ensure musicians, singers, volunteers, and technical teams know what is expected before arriving for worship.

    Qualifications

    • Experience leading musicians and/or worship teams.
    • Strong musical ability and understanding of CCM, gospel, contemporary worship, and Black church musical traditions.
    • Ability to lead rehearsals and communicate effectively with musicians and singers.
    • Familiarity with tracks, stems, click tracks, and digital music resources.
    • Dependable, organized, collaborative, and able to work within established deadlines.
    • Commitment to the mission, values, and worship culture of the church.

    The Part-Time Music Director should lead with spirit-filled preparation, excellence, humility, and collaboration, recognizing that effective preparation allows the entire worship team to serve the congregation without unnecessary distractions.
