Location: Annapolis, MD Corps

Position Type: Temporary/Seasonal - PT - limited hours weekly

Pay Rate: $60.00/hour

This position is responsible for:

Planning, coordinating, and directing the functions of the School of Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality music instruction to students. Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes. Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
  • Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Youth and Music Evangelism Director and/or Corps Officers.
  • Prepares students for recitals and concerts. Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
  • Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Some physical requirements of the position could be endurance including standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate music equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate musical activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Education and Experience

  • Six (6) months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid State Driver's License preferred.
