QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Mass. Department of Education.
Prior work experience as a Music Teacher

JOB GOAL:
To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; and to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of and the ability to implement the MA Music and Solo and Ensemble and Theater curriculum standards.
- Teaches general music to middle school and music electives to high school, including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Provides opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir & musicals.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.
- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Develops and refines music curriculum based on NAfME's standards of creating, performing, and responding.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluates each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, etc. and maintains required inventory.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve problems.
- Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Meets professional obligations with respect to punctuality, attendance and routine duties.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and expectations.
Terms Of Employment: 182 days per year
