The Band Director/Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality music instruction and leadership for the Pamlico County High School instrumental music program. The instructor develops and implements a comprehensive band program that promotes musical growth, student achievement, discipline, teamwork, creativity, and school pride. The instructor plans and delivers engaging instruction, prepares students for performances and competitions, directs concerts and athletic events, and provides opportunities for students to develop their musical skills and leadership abilities. It is the expectation that the Band Instructor collaborates with school staff, parents, and the community to support student success and promote a positive, inclusive, and successful band program.
Qualifications
Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator License in the area of Music Education (800).
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and deliver standards-based instrumental music instruction aligned with North Carolina Standards.
Direct and supervise the high school band program, including rehearsals, concerts, performances, and competitions.
Develop students' musical skills in areas such as technique, music theory, sight-reading, ensemble performance, and musicianship.
Select, arrange, and prepare appropriate music for concerts, competitions, athletic events, and other school/community performances.
Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, discipline, teamwork, and school pride.
Recruit, audition, and retain students for the band program and encourage participation across grade levels and ability levels.
Maintain and manage band instruments, uniforms, equipment, music, supplies, and inventory.
Coordinate transportation, schedules, facilities, and logistics for performances, competitions, field trips, and other band-related activities.
Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, trips, and extracurricular activities in accordance with school and district policies.
Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and staff regarding student progress, expectations, performances, and program activities.
Collaborate with school administration and other music/arts staff to support the overall goals of the school and district.
Organize and manage band budgets, fundraising activities, purchases, and expenditures in accordance with district procedures.
Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support individual and ensemble growth.
Participate in professional development and remain current with effective music education practices, North Carolina requirements, and applicable school/district policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district administration.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research.
