Duties
To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches music appreciation, harmony, vocal and instrumental music, and choral performance using the Board-approved curriculum and appropriate instructional strategies.
- Instructs students in citizenship and required subject matter in accordance with state law and district policies.
- Plans and organizes a balanced music program that maximizes instructional, rehearsal, and performance time.
- Provides whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Selects and utilizes age-appropriate traditional and contemporary music literature to support student learning.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior that promote a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
- Assesses student musical growth, performance, and participation, and communicates progress with parents and school counselors.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs musical performances and programs for school and community events.
- Selects, inventories, maintains, and safeguards instructional materials, musical instruments, and other district-owned equipment; requests repairs as needed.
- Collaborates with colleagues and families to identify and address students'' academic, behavioral, health, and social-emotional needs.
- Assists with musical support for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and other district or community functions.
- Supervises students during assigned school activities and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certificate (03, 09 or 10)
- B.A. degree(s) required and area of major study.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary/Benefits
Salary commensurate to salary schedule per the negotiated contract.
