Green Bay Trinity Lutheran School seeks a dedicated, passionate, and skilled Full-Time Music Teacher to lead and develop a thriving, comprehensive music program. The successful candidate will bring musical expertise, a love for working with children, and an enthusiasm for Lutheran school ministry. This position encompasses all areas of the school's music program - from foundational general music in the early grades to performance ensembles including choir, handbell choir, and instrumental band.
General Music (Grades K-5)
Teach engaging, age-appropriate general music classes for Kindergarten through 5th grade, building a strong musical foundation for all students:
- Introduce fundamental concepts of music theory, rhythm, melody, and musical literacy
- Teach recorder to upper elementary students as a bridge to band participation
- Incorporate singing, movement, and listening activities aligned with best practices
- Integrate Lutheran hymnody and worship music into the curriculum
- Assess student progress and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
Choir (Grades 5-8)
Direct the school choir program, providing students with choral performance experience rooted in Lutheran musical tradition:
- Conduct weekly choir rehearsals for grades 5-8
- Select and teach repertoire appropriate to the Lutheran liturgical calendar
- Prepare and lead performances for school events, chapel services, and community concerts
- Foster proper vocal technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills
Handbell Choir (Two Sections: Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-8)
- Direct a Grades 4-5 Junior Handbell Choir, introducing younger students to handbell technique and ensemble fundamentals
- Direct a Grades 6-8 Senior Handbell Choir, advancing students into more complex repertoire and performance
- Maintain and manage the handbell inventory and equipment
- Collaborate with chapel and church leadership to incorporate handbells into worship settings
Instrumental Band (Grades 5-8)
- Recruit students into the band program through instrument demonstrations in the general music classroom
- Conduct full band rehearsals with emphasis on technique, music reading, and ensemble performance
- Select repertoire appropriate to student ability levels for concerts and school events
- Coordinate instrument rental programs, maintenance, and logistical needs with families and administration
Private & Small-Group Instrumental Lessons
- Teach private or pull-out lessons for students on various band instruments
- Track individual student progress and communicate regularly with parents
- Develop individualized practice plans and goals for each student
- Coordinate lesson scheduling with classroom teachers to minimize disruption to core academics
Required
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Music Education or a closely related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in choral direction, handbell direction, and instrumental music instruction
- Experience teaching general music to elementary-age students
- Ability to teach recorder as a pre-band instrument program
- Strong piano or keyboard accompaniment skills
- Ability to direct and develop multiple performing ensembles simultaneously
- Commitment to the Christian faith and active membership in a Lutheran (LCMS or equivalent) congregation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
