Position Summary The Music Teacher provides high-quality, standards-based music instruction to students across
assigned
grade
levels.
The
teacher
plans,
implements,
coordinates,
and
evaluates
a
comprehensive
music
education
program
that
develops
students'
musical
skills,
creativity,
performance
abilities,
and
appreciation
for
music
through
engaging
and
developmentally
appropriate
learning
experiences.
Qualifications
State
of
MI
Teaching
Certification
with
proper
endorsement
in
Music
Instruction
(JQ)
Bachelor's
Degree
from
an
accredited
university.
Experience
is
preferred
but
not
necessary
for
hire.

Deliver
engaging,
standards-based
music
instruction
aligned
with
the
Michigan
Academic
Standards
and
Pontiac
School
District
curriculum
for
assigned
grade
levels.
Plan
and
implement
developmentally
appropriate
lessons
in
general
music,
vocal
music,
instrumental
music,
music
theory,
music
history,
and
music
performance
that
foster
creativity,
technical
skill,
and
musical
literacy.
Develop
students'
abilities
in
music
reading,
rhythm,
melody,
harmony,
performance
techniques,
listening,
composition,
and
music
appreciation
through
differentiated
instruction.
Incorporate
a
variety
of
instructional
strategies,
technology,
and
performance-based
assessments
to
meet
the
diverse
learning
needs
of
all
students
and
promote
continuous
musical
growth.
Differentiate
instruction
and
provide
appropriate
accommodations
and
interventions
to
ensure
all
students,
including
English
learners
and
students
with
disabilities,
have
meaningful
access
to
music
instruction.
Create
opportunities
for
students
to
develop
critical
thinking,
creativity,
collaboration,
communication,
and
self-expression
through
individual
and
ensemble
musical
experiences.
Prepare
students
for
classroom
performances,
concerts,
festivals,
community
performances,
and
other
music-related
events
that
showcase
student
achievement
and
support
school
and
district
initiatives.
Assess
student
progress
using
formative
and
summative
assessments,
provide
timely
and
meaningful
feedback,
and
maintain
accurate
records
of
student
achievement.
Collaborate
with
classroom
teachers,
special
education
staff,
administrators,
parents,
and
community
partners
to
support
student
success
and
integrate
music
across
the
curriculum
when
appropriate.
Maintain
music
classrooms,
rehearsal
spaces,
instruments,
equipment,
technology,
and
instructional
materials
in
a
safe,
organized,
and
functional
condition.
Promote
a
positive,
inclusive,
and
respectful
learning
environment
that
encourages
student
participation,
creativity,
teamwork,
responsibility,
and
an
appreciation
for
diverse
musical
traditions
and
cultures.
Supervise
students
during
rehearsals,
performances,
field
trips,
and
other
school-sponsored
activities
to
ensure
a
safe,
supportive,
and
productive
learning
environment.
Recognize
and
celebrate
student
growth,
achievement,
effort,
and
positive
contributions
to
the
music
program
through
performances,
awards,
and
other
forms
of
recognition.
Participate
in
professional
learning,
curriculum
development,
school
improvement
initiatives,
and
other
district
responsibilities
to
enhance
instructional
practices
and
strengthen
the
music
education
program.
